In my reading this last week in Judges, one of the things that jumped out to me was the failed leadership of men. Now no doubt I have learned much from women over the years. Often their wisdom has been so much greater than mine.

But in the Scriptures God’s design is for men to take the lead. Remember that it was Adam who was created first and God’s design was for Eve to be his helper.

In Judges 4 we read this: “Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time.” Why? Where were the men?

By all accounts, Deborah was a very good leader for Israel and was known for her wisdom and courage. But it seems to me that in this account we are seeing somewhat of a judgment on the men. Where were they such that God raised up a woman to lead them?

Whatever God’s precise reason for placing Deborah in the position of leadership, the question still lingers even to this day. Where are the men?

Men we need to be leaders. Leaders in our families, our churches, our communities, and so on. God designed it that way for us. Men, may we seek God with all our being, asking him to lead us to be Spirit-filled leaders.
